For those who wish to block the view into their yards, its hard to create a barrier that won’t at the same time seem like a fortress wall. In this case the use of wood is best and the best wood to use is teak. Each of these gates are 2″ thick and have no openings in them, nor a gap between the edges and posts. They are constructed in a way that prevents annual shrinkage or warping. Teak is the most rot resistant wood and it has a beautiful brown hue. If left unsealed the wood’s color turns silver/grey. I used bronze hinges that have sealed ball bearings…so, they will never rust or need oil. The gate opener for the carport is mounted on the inside. The old fence and gate were iron and had been banged up and rusted. With some reinforcing, I was able to use the existing posts to secure the new wood posts, saving hundreds of dollars for the customer and the large bougainvillea they love.
